Christmas 2011 Unwrapped!

Now that the Christmas holiday has come and gone, is officially packed up and put away, and the living room is bursting with toys I can finally sit back, relax, and reflect!

Even though my holiday spirit was hard to come by this year (due to the lack of snow and unusually warm temperatures) everything about this Christmas felt magical...as it should be! Having a little one to share the traditions and excitement with was breathtakingly priceless...even if he doesn't quite yet understand.

So without further ado, here is our Christmas wrap up...no pun intended!

This years tree was a bit different than all the years past. You see, ever since becoming a homeowner I have always decorated the tree in some sort of theme; it's sort of become my thing. This year, I let Daddy take the reins and decide what our plan of attack was going to be.

Personalized ornaments and LED lighting it was. Surprisingly, I loved it and it actually inspired us to begin a new family tradition...ornament exchanges!

We also got to make our first of many homemade ornaments! I heart them and all their imperfections!

The hilariously funny part about this year's tree is that the ornaments slowly made their way up and out of Charlie's reach!

After carefully inspecting, exploring, and discovering the tree for weeks (mind you it goes up immediately following Halloween) Charlie gained enough confidence to frequently crawl beneath it (with the kitty) to check things out and to um...undecorate it! Silly boy!

The kitchen window display was by far, my most favorite project of all time! While it may have been a big pain in my ass the finished product was truly stunning! Essentially all I did was take a wire curtain rod, wrap the pine needle garland around it, hang/tie ornaments from fishing line, and VOILA, a beautifully decorated window! As far as the rest of the decor it was very limited because of said mobile and highly curious toddler! Pictures were wrapped up like presents (Yes, I decorated the bathroom!), pine needle light garlands were strung, and the stockings were hung...even if we may have neglected to fill them! Oops!

The days leading up to Christmas were full of fun special moments shared between the three of us at home spent being silly (look at that crazy hair) and a very special visit from Santa Claus...aka Daddy!

And it wouldn't be Christmas without at least one "crying" with Santa picture! He he! I don't think Charlie quite knew what to think!

My boys, my loves! Oh how I love them!

Christmas eve day was spent with my moms family and that evening we spent time with my family at my brother and sister in laws new house! It was wonderful!

Presents were unwrapped slowly, boxes and bows were a hit, and the stairs were explored more than usual!

Charlie even made a new friend! Don't get any ideas boys...we AREN'T getting a dog!

Come Christmas morning Charlie was a pro! To our surprise he was picking up presents and carrying them over to us...such a good little elf he was! I have to say it was one of the cutest things I have ever seen! I can't wait until next year when it all makes just a little more sense to him!

But the best presents of all were...

...my homemade "Mommy Guilt Free Fishing Coupons" for Daddy! In fact, it only took him one day to use them!

...and Mommy finally got to put her new super camera to use! Oh yeah, did I fail to mention that I have the best family ever?! Our parents got me my super camera for my birthday and it finally arrived! I have so much to learn!

1st Year Motherhood Badge - I've Earned It!

I'm pretty sure I'm probably preaching to the choir but after kicking Charlie's first year in the ass I thought it was only appropriate to look back upon and reflect upon the many, oh so many things that I have learned...

Love them. Cuddle them. Hug them. Kiss them. But most importantly, cherish them!

You will be forever different! Mind. Body. Soul.

You, and only you know your baby the best! Don't let anyone else try to tell you otherwise.

Never, under any circumstances, compare your baby to another. He/she is unique and one of kind.

Don't wish the time away!

They will roll, crawl, talk, walk, and etc. when they are ready! There is no reason to wish for them to grow up faster than they already do.

Never regret nor wish/wonder why you did this or that. Trust your decisions and figure out how to learn and grow from them.

There is nothing easy about breastfeeding but all the pain, frustration, and isolation is totally worth it and so gratifying!

Document things as they happen (even if its informal) because before you know it and by the time you finally find the time to sit down to collect your thoughts all of those "small and very important milestones/memories will have slipped your new Mommy brain!

You will talk about poop and study its consistency without thinking twice about it.

TRUST YOUR MOM-STINCTS! 99.9% of the time they are right!

Share your baby with others, they want to love up on him/her too.

Take pictures and lots of them! You will thank yourself in the future.

Teach them, they look up to you!

You can plan all you want but mother nature is always going to trump you!

It's okay to ask for help.

Take a break to recharge. Your baby will thank you!

There is nothing consistent about sleeping patterns. Just as soon as you "think they got it" a speed bump comes along and resets everything! Here we are one year later and Charlie is still not sleeping through the night!

Don't forget to take time to nurture the relationship with your spouse, he has needs too!

You will finally understand your parents and guess what, they were right!

Being a Mommy is by far the BEST job (next to being a wife) that I/you will have ever had!

DIY: Balloon Wreath & Topiary Centerpieces

Bright colorful balloons are a must for any birthday party, but more so for those whose sole theme is based upon them. So, as soon as I came across these balloon wreaths and topiary centerpieces on Pinterest I knew they were a MUST HAVE for Charlie's party!

Although, come to find out the way I had actually envisioned these projects coming together was 99% different than every tutorial out there...go figure! I guess maybe I should have actually done more research and reading prior to purchasing my supplies! Oh well, can you say improvise?!

Balloon Wreath

Note: As you can tell from my pictures below I started on the outer most wire and worked my way in. I did find that outer fluffy layer to be in my way when I began working on the inside. Hence my recommendation to work from the inside out. Additionally, I only tied balloons to the outer most and second to most inner wires and I found the wreath to be plenty full.

Gather your supplies i.e. wire wreath and balloons. I can't tell you exactly how many balloons you are going to need (I used 400+) because it's all going to depend upon how big your wreath is (I wish I would have used a smaller one), the size of your balloons, and how densely you decide to pack/tie them in. But, I can tell you that you are probably going to need WAY MORE than you think you will so buy extra...you will thank yourself later! The cheapest ones I found came from the dollar store and Walmart.

To begin, thread your first balloon through and around the wire and then tie it into a knot as close to the center of the balloon as possible. This way, you will have an even layering of balloon tops and bottoms pulling through your wreath.

With the next balloon (so on and so forth) thread it in and through the wire in the same direction as to which the previous balloon fell. Can you see/follow the pattern?

Repeat, repeat, and repeat until you have balloons covering your entire wreath.

Along the way you will notice that sometimes a little bit of air will sneak into your balloons as you are tying them. It's no biggie...just preposition the balloon so that the inflated portion is facing towards the back or go ahead and pop them.

400+ balloon knots and dry cracked latex smelling hands later...VOILA, the finished product! I love it and I simply can't wait to pull it our for every birthday in our house! Traditions, traditions, traditions. I heart them!

Topiary Centerpieces

While the tutorial I found online was pretty self explanatory (please follow this link for the exact directions) I quickly realized that I was going to have to improvise drastically! Due to the light weight canister and over sized styrofoam balls the top of the topiary ended up being too heavy. Oops!

So, in an effort to continue with what I had I simply just removed of the pinned balloons and just placed my balloon balls a top the container and left it at that! While it's not even close to what I had envisioned it worked and served it's general purpose. Who knows, maybe over the next few birthdays I can jazz it up a bit more with some paint or ribbons?!

So what does one exactly write about on said mentioned monumental birthday?

Honestly, I'm not quite sure but it only seems fitting to write about me and only me as I begin to tightly pack up and put away the past decade of my so called life.

Early 20's: I half ass attempted college and failed miserably, broke up with my high school sweetheart multiple times, dated several too many Mr Not's, and I quite literally drank myself silly! I guess girls really do just want to have fun!

Mid 20's: I met Mr. Right and fell madly in love, we got engaged and shortly thereafter married, we bought a house, and I landed my first "REAL" job.

Late 20's: I learned responsibility and the importance of good financial planning/management, I was promoted THREE times, formed some valuable and genuine friendships, but most importantly, I became a mommy!

Looking back and thinking about it now, I'm pleasantly surprised to finally realize that I actually did accomplish much over this past decade...even if most of it was a blur!

From everything that has helped shape and form me, I can now say I've learned that...

...it's important to embrace where you've been to appreciate where you are going.

...looks aren't everything but feeling comfortable in your own skin is. I think I'm finally getting the hang of what makes me feel pretty. Part of it comes from some cake frosting flavored lip gloss, a messy ponytail, and a pair of jeans that makes my a$$ look like a million bucks! But the bulk of it? It comes from motherhood!

...there is good in everyone but sometimes you may have to dig for it.

...photography is soul soothing.

...love has no words or boundaries.

...motherhood is an all consuming life changing kind of love.

...surprisingly, it's much easier to function on little to no sleep than I thought! As my hubby always says, you'll sleep plenty when you're dead.

...if I don't keep myself hydrated kidney stones are just on the horizon!

...I'm not perfect and neither is anyone else.

...i like my meat medium rare and extra dressing on my salads.

...i love to be loved and to give love.

...receiving hand written cards and letters via snail mail is priceless!

...I'm a seafood hater and it's not for lack of trying. I just can't get past the fishy smell, ick nasty!

...family is everything and should never be taken for granted.

...being the "big spoon" isn't so bad. Everyone needs to be held every now and again!

...I totally overuse exclamation points and other unnecessary punctuation when I write! I guess I'm just a bit expressive!

...no matter how hard I try to keep it clean my car will always be dirty! Both inside and out.

...doing the laundry is my most dreaded chore.

...I find great comfort and satisfaction in decorating my home because let's me honest, Dorothy nailed it...there is no place like home!

...when I'm crabby more than likely I'm hungry so feed me!

...it's always better to give than to receive.

...I'm an open book, ask and you shall receive.

...I have a really hard time saying no!

...it's the tiny insignificant moments in life that matter the most!

While I know that I still have a great deal to learn (I will with time) at this point in my life I can genuinely say that I am truly happy; for that, I'm so very thankful!

And, instead of putting myself into a deep depression or swirling into a mid life crisis I'm going to look forward and ahead into another decade of growth, experience, challenges, sorrows, and all of the love it entails.

With that, I would now like to extend one big HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to myself! Woot woot!

Charlie's 1st Birthday Party (Photo Dump)

Holy moly, moly, moly! It's birthday week!

In 4 very short days our little Charlie Bug will be turning O-N-E folks! That's in and of itself is crazily absurd! I don't even think that made sense but whatever, my mind is totally all over the place lately...hence my lack of posting.

So, the invitations have been sent, the DVD has been "somewhat" created, the balloon wreath and topiary centerpieces have been made (yep, I actually got my craft on and they look AMAZING), the majority of the decorations have been purchased, and the elaborate cake plan is in the works!

But wait, I still haven't created the picture collage, purchased any presents, planned a menu, cleaned up after last week's Thanksgiving festivities, and or prepare the rooms for our house guests that arrive tomorrow. Yikes, I could totally go for some super mommy multi tasking powers right about now!

So, until then, I'll be running around like a chicken with it's head cut off making sure everything falls into place or maybe, I'll just sit back, relax, and just go with the flow. Yeah right!

So very thankful...

Over the course of the past year I have quickly come to realize that I have so many things to be thankful for! Big things, small things, but most importantly, the tiny things.

To name a few...

Motherhood. I never knew the kind of love that exists between mother and child until I was blessed with Charlie! He brightens each and every day. He makes me smile and his belly laughs are contagious. Literally, as I am typing this message he is watching Daddy peel potatoes and is laughing hysterically! I'm not sure exactly what it is that he finds to be so funny but it's tiny insignificant moments like this that I am truly thankful for! Charlie, thank you for making me see life in a new way, I truly just love you to pieces!

Companionship. My baby Daddy, the love of my life! He is amazing, funny, handsome, hard working, thoughtful, loving, protective, sincere, proud, funny, and caring. He is truly one of a kind and I am so very honored that he is mine! I look forward to raising our family together and I simply can not wait to see what the future has in store for us! Bob, I love you forever and always.

Family. While some are near and some are far (oh how we miss them dearly) we are so very thankful to have such loving, supportive, and nurturing families behind us cheering us on!

Friends. Our core group of friends literally live right next door! How convenient! From the late night giggles by the bonfire or burning last year's Christmas trees to the annual Wild West Day/pumpkin patch/carving/costume party extravaganzas the friendships we have formed are nothing short of amazing, true, sincere, honest, fun, and adventurous!

Employment. I am so very thankful that I have an employer that has been generous with promotions over the course of the last six years, that they are flexible with my scheduling, and that I also have the capabilities to work from home when my personal life requires me to be away from the office.

Daycare. While I still find myself struggling with being separated from Charlie (even if he has entered some type of unusual whiny tantrum throwing phase) I find great comfort in/with the caregiver that we have selected. Mrs. Kara truly does have his best interests at heart and treats him as if he was one of her own.

Naptime. Yes, I'm thankful for naptime. Without it, I would never be able to get anything done or get that ever so needed extra sleep!

Shelter. While it may not be the house of my dreams we have made our house a home; it's comforting, comfortable, and is a reflection of us. As cliche as this may sound, there really is no place like home!

And with that my friends, may you and yours have a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving! Now go gobble until you wobble!

Charlie's 1 Year Photo Shoot

In two very short weeks our little Charlie Bug will be turning O-N-E! Yikes, how did that happen?!

With this monumental milestone on the horizon I knew that this photo shoot had to be nothing less than spectacular. After finding some inspiration over on Pinterest I picked up and put together (more on this to come during birthday week) some fun, vibrant, and festive props (than can double as party favors) and combined them with Bridget's mad photography skills in her home studio and together, I think we produced some pretty amazing and memorable pictures!

Halloween was definitely a NO GO for us this year!

Long story short, Charlie HATED his costume (don't let the picture fool you), his bedtime fussies set in unusually early (I think we are going through a growth spurt), and he threw his very first temper tantrum!
Needless to say, we were that house last night! You know, the one who pulls in all of their Halloween decorations, shuts off their lights, takes cover in the back of the house, and unplugs their doorbell! No joking, it was ridiculous!

Oh well, maybe next year?!

For the first time in a long time...

While I won't say that I had too much fun (ok, well maybe I did) I will say that I'm pretty sure that I can't party like I used to! So, after taking a full day + to recover (literally) and looking back on the pictures while sober, I can honestly say that the hangover was totally worth it!

Party Planning...

Well, here we are, less than 6 weeks away from Charlie's 1st and my 30th birthday celebration. Yikes, how did that happen? And since we are combining both of our birthday's into one very special day I've decided to run wild with a balloon theme! It's fun for all ages don't you think!?

So, since I have yet to do ANYTHING in preparation for it and in the spirit of giving myself a swift kick in the ass I decided that it was time to get inspired! So, where did I find it? Pinterest of course!

For the decor I'll let the pictures speak for themselves because the possibilities are really endless! I envision color and balloons EVERYWHERE!

As far as the cake I do know for a fact that a dear family friend will be making it for us...including Charlie's smash cake! I can't wait to see what she comes up this time! Check out the one she made for my baby shower here...pretty amazing huh!?

For shits and giggles I'm going to attempt to unleash MY inner craftiness by making a balloon wreath, balloon topiary centerpieces, and a picture montage/birthday banner.

And for fun, I would like to dedicate one part of the house to a photo booth. I envision lots of balloons like in the below picture, props (glasses, mustaches, etc.) and a chalkboard for guests to create special messages.

Until then, wish me luck as I dive head first into party planning mode!

Back in August when Grandma and Grandpa were in town I totally molested their Canon EOS Rebel T1i camera and please, let me just say, it was AMAZING! The picture quality, crystal clear. The simplicity, oh the simplicity! The speed, record breaking. The functionalities, endless! I just couldn't get enough of it!

Ever since, I haven't been able to shake my needs, wants, and desires for my new found addiction for super cameras and photography! I mean come on, after producing pictures like this who wouldn't want more?

So, after way too much contemplation and research I have decided to go with the Canon EOS Rebel T3i. You know, the sooped up version of Grandpa's T1i to which I'm already familiar with!

I guess it's a good thing that my 30th Birthday (shit, did I just admit that?) and Christmas are just around the corner! Maybe, just maybe, the hubby can sweet talk any and everyone to making a donation to my must have camera fund because there is no way I can make this type of investment just yet.

Until then, I guess I will just have to make do with my point-and-shoot-miss-the-moment-camera!

Fun fact, did you know that in a perfect world that I would love to increase my knowledge and expertise of photography into a business? Yep, I have big dreams!

We are finally teething! By the end of the month he had one on the bottom, a front, and his two upper fang teeth! While it may not be the best picture this is the only one we managed to snap that actually showcased some pearly whites! What a cheese ball!

As far as meals he is eating baby food three times a day (breakfast/lunch/dinner) and or with small portions of table scraps to which he loves to feed to himself! We also snack in between meals. I swear, he would eat all day if we would let him. Hmm, I wonder where he gets that from?! As far as formula he is still taking in 3 or 4 6-8 oz. bottles each day/night...damn those teeth!

He still isn't sleeping through the night; we wake roughly 2-4 times a night...damn those teeth!

He has discovered the toilet paper and loves to shred it to pieces and then eat it! Oh well, I don't mind because it keeps him occupied and it's so much fun to watch him explore and discover new things! He is so curious!

He has mastered the art of crawling up stairs! How, I have no idea because he never spends any time on our watch near the stairs. Hmm, did he learn this one at daycare? Probably!

If he needs to get anywhere he crawls...fast and furiously! He continues to walk alongside and or pull himself up onto almost anything and everything that he can but hasn't yet built of the confidence to let go.

And lastly, my most cherished memory from this month was receiving Charlie's first piece of artwork! It's been hanging on the fridge since we brought it home! Simply beautiful!

In the spirit of keeping traditions alive...

...two weeks ago the worlds coolest neighborhood (seriously, they are almost closer than some family) headed out for their 4th Annual Pumpkin Patch outing! As per usual, a great time was had by all. The only thing missing was this pretty lady and her beautiful family...maybe next year?

Looking forward to this months continued neighborhood traditions i.e. pumpkin carving & costume parties!

Now that we are parents, I feel like it is our responsibility to make sure that we create as many memorable family traditions for Charlie, and those yet to be conceived other babies, year in and year out.

Last weekend, we did just that!

With Charlie in tote and the SUV packed, we, along with our dear friends Dave & Michele and their daughter Kayla ventured down to Aamodt's Apple Farm in Stillwater, MN. The weather was perfect, the scenery was breathtaking, and the food was scrumptious! We indulged our taste buds to anything and everything apple! Honey Crisp Apples? Apple Brats? Apple Cider? Apple Crisp? Kettle Corn? Yes please!

While there wasn't much for Charlie to do quite yet, it was the perfect way to spend our Saturday afternoon!

I'm already looking forward to next year's trip! However, I think instead of attending the Honey Crisp Festival we will hit them up the weekend they do their Hot Air Balloon Festival! It sounds like it could be a whole lot of fun!

Oh, and they also have a winery! Of course, we just couldn't resist the urge to pick a couple of fresh grapes straight from the vines...yum! Even though I'm not a big fan of wine I think Daddy and I might have to head back down there when the leaves start turning colors along the St. Croix for a wine tasting! Doesn't that sound like a great date night?

SO WHAT! if I had to resort to pulling out my maternity jeans (mind you I am now almost 10 months post partum) this morning? The dirty clothes seemed to have vomited all over my laundry room, I couldn't find another pair that I could squeeze my "muffin-topped office-ass" into, and nor could I find a pair that fits that wasn't covered in crusty baby food, snot, or vomit! Honestly, I just don't care!

Grandma & Grandpa's Heart

Back in August (Oh geesh, am I that behind in my postings? YEP, probably!) Grandma and Grandpa T. came to visit us from NY for an entire week! Oh who am I kidding, y'all know as well as I do that they came to see Charlie! This visit was very special! You see, the last time they saw Charlie he was 2 months old. So, needless to say, it was almost as if they were meeting a new person! All in all, we enjoyed their company and we can't wait to see them again in December for Charlie's 1st birthday party!!!

And as usual, because pictures and poetry speak louder than any words I could assemble together here is a sneak peak into their visit!

Grandpa's Heart: News of you has taught me more, I know now what a long life's for. I've found through you my magic heart, the kinder, gentler, patient part. While I waited those months for you, I reflected on the things we'd do. I would be your special friend, have secrets to share and pennies to spend. I would tell you of the past, leave you memories that would always last. I would grant your every wish, like bigger scoops in your ice cream dish. I would be your biggest fan, the one cheering loudest from the stands. I'd play games of make believe, pull magic tricks from up my sleeve. Charlie's 8 month milestones include...

HE IS OFFICIALLY CRAWLING AND PULLING HIMSELF UP ONTO THINGS! Please excuse me while I go cry and huff into bag - geesh, stop growing up would you please? What's even more special than that? He started doing it when Grandma and Grandpa T. were in town visiting from NY!

Needless to say, the baby proofing has begun...the cabinets are locked, the gate is up, and the outlets are covered. On that note, I have to say that I have always been one to keep a clean house (almost obsessive at times) but let's be honest, you don't fully realize how dirty your house really is until you have a mobile baby. It astonishes me how my definition of clean really isn't clean! I'm constantly catching myself scanning the floor for the teeny tinest of crumbs because now, anything and everything goes into his mouth! It's kind of disgusting!

By the end of the month he almost weighed 17 pounds...still a peanut!

He is wearing size 3 diapers.

For the majority of te month I was squeezing him into 3 month clothing with an occasional 6 month romper/onesie/pajama sleeper. However, by the end of the month I broke down and packed it all up so we are FINALLY into somewhat more age appropriate (6-9 months) clothing! Grow lil' man...grow!

Due to another cold, teething, growth spurts, sensory overload, and god knows whatever else...

He we went from sleeping through the night (12-13 hours) in July to waking up anywhere between 3-5 times a night! I shit you not, it was SERIOUSLY RIDICULOUS! Honestly, I think that was more exhausting that the first 6 weeks he was at home with us!
His appetite was all over and never consistent! Sometimes he wanted a bottle and others he totally despised them, literally! There were days when he wouldn't take a bottle to save his life. Thankfully he was up so frequently at night that we could get his fluids into him at that time. I don't know, at times we wondered if he had his nights and days mixed up? Solid food on the other hand, we rarely, if ever, have any problem getting that into him!

He sucks on his fingers when he is hungry.

He still refuses his nook although, I'm totally okay with that because it's one less thing that we will have to ween him off of down the road.

He has started mumbling the words "Momma" and "Ba Ba." While I'm pretty sure he isn't intentionally trying to pronuciate or say either it is still music to my ears!

I mentioned how much he loved his walker last month, well his love for it continues to grow! We spend much time outside running (literally) up and down the driveway to point that he has blown a hole in both toes of his shoes.

His belly laughs always give him the hiccups!

He is more interested in drinking out of our cups than his tippee cup.

Due to his mobility we lowered his crib; one can never be too safe right!? The only downside to this is that now I, the midget that I am, can hardly reach him without hanging my weight onto the side of the crib.

We started using a walk behind walker. He does pretty well (still a little clumsy) with a bit of assistance from us.

It's been another whirlwind of a month! I guess it's really true that time flies by when you are having fun! While it deeply saddens me to see you become more independent with each passing day I can't help but to be over-joyed to watch you figure things out! At times, I can even see your little wheels turning! You are highly curious, flirty (just like your Daddy), and so very happy! Over the course of your eighth month you taught us so many things that I can't even begin to take note of them all. You are such a blessing and we love you more than you will ever know

Slow Cooking...

I LOVE the Simplicity that the Crock Pot has brought back into our life! Maybe it's because slow cooking resonates with fall (my favorite season) or maybe it's because we as first time parents are consistently struggling with the what's for dinner, who's going to cook it, and how can we squeeze it into our highly routine oriented evening?

While on maternity leave my focus was solely on nursing, napping, changing diapers, and simply just making it through a day without crying until Daddy came home. Back then, Totino's Party Pizza's and the toaster oven were my saving grace. Now, life is drastically different, I'm exhausted when I get home, and all I want to do is spend that hour (maybe two if we are lucky) with my baby before the bedtime fussys set in. Needless to say, time is precious and cooking remains on the back-burner!

After having had enough of the wee late hour meals, countless pizza boxes piling up, Chinese takeout containers flooding the Tupperware cabinet, unnecessary weight gain, and etc. we needed a change! That is when it clicked...THE CROCK POT! Hello, how on earth did we both forget about this wonderful and convenient kitchen appliance? In fact, we own 3 of them! Seriously, que Homer...DOH!

Since rediscovering my love for slow cooking I have come across some pretty scrumptious recipes and techniques that even I, the world's most horrible cook can't screw up...that is for the most part! So what exactly is it that I have learned?

Do your prepping the night before for two reasons. 1) This allows whatever it is you are cooking to marinate which in turn will give your finished product some extra flavor. 2) It takes pressure off of your already busy/stressful mornings and evenings!
Slow cooking is not an exact science; alter and substitute your recipes as you see fit.
Considering that slow cooking typically yields enormous portioning, freeze and save! You will thank yourself later and if you are anything like me it will eliminate feeling guilty when you toss those unnecessary moldy leftovers into the garbage...don't you know, there are starving children in Africa?!
Take notes! If you successfully cook a recipe the first time don't be surprised when it doesn't turn out as well next time! My husband who is an amazing cook always says to me..."it takes time to master a recipe!" I hate to admit it but it's so true!
Lastly, have patience!

AllRecipes.com - Did you know you can customize any of their recipes to directly align with the amount of servings you need?
CrockPotGirls.com - Their website is new and isn't quite up and running yet. However, in the meantime, you can find them on over on Facebook here.
If all else fails, a google search will always produce results!

So, without further ado, here is my all time "new" favorite slow cooker recipe...I think it's to die for!

Chicken Stroganoff

(Yields 2 to 3 servings)

Ingredients: 2 skinless/boneless chicken breasts, 1/8 cup margarine, 1 package Dry Italian-Style Salad Dressing Mix, 8 oz. package Cream Cheese, 1 can Condensed Cream of Chicken soup, 1 package of Mushrooms, and Egg Noodles.

Directions: Add chicken, margarine, salad dressing mix, and 1/2 cup water into slow cooker. Mix together and cook on LOW for 5-6 hours. Note, the longer you cook the chicken the better it will shred. I think the first time I made this the chicken cooked for at least 8 hours and it was AMAZING!

About an 1-2 hours before you are ready to eat pull out the chicken and set aside. Mix together the Cream Cheese and Cream of Chicken Soup in with the remaining liquid. Note, the consistency with appear extremely thick, have patience! The additional 1-2 hours of simmering will allow the sauce to thin out...I promise! With two forks, shred the chicken. Add shredded chicken and mushrooms back into the sauce, stir well, cover, and simmer for 1-2 hours. Serve over Egg Noodles.

Eventually I will get my shit together and start posting again on a regular basis like I used to, I promise! Until then, please hang tight! Although, at this point, I'm not sure if anyone still reads my blog...is there anybody out there? Do me a favor, if you're still with me, drop me line to say hello. Yeah I know, excuses are like assholes, we all them, but seriously, August has been a CRAZY month to say the least which is why I am just getting to this post (among many others) now. So, as per usual and without further ado, here are Charlie's 7 month milestones....

Newborn: 4 lbs. 5 oz.
2 Months: 9 lbs. 5 oz.
4 Months: 12 lbs. 11.5 oz.
5 Months: 13 lbs. 13 oz.
6 Months: 14 lbs. 12 oz.
7 Months: 16 lbs. 5 oz.

Diapers: Size 3

Clothing: 0-3 months w/ the exception of a few 6 month pieces. Yep, he's our little teenie tiny peanut!

We are FINALLY sleeping through the night ~ 12/13 hours! I forgot how nice it is to actually be able to get uninterrupted sleep!

Charlie is starting to grow more hair although, most of the times it looks as if he is still bald.

Charlie manages to get around by rolling or via an adorable army crawl where he simply just drags himself across the floor like an inchworm. You see, he just hasn't quite yet figured out the mechanics to manipulate both his arms and legs at the same time.

Food: Formula is still his main source of nourishment; 4 or 5 6-8 oz. bottles per day. In regards actual baby food he is still eating 3 solid meals at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This month we introduced apricots w/ mixed fruit, Sweet Potatoes w/ Turkey, Barley, Whole Wheat, Macaroni & Cheese, Pear Blueberry w/ Oatmeal, Pear Pineapple, and Strawberry Pear w/ Granola. Additionally, we have also done Graham Crackers, Mum Mums, and Charlie's favorite...Puffs! In fact, he has finally figured out how to pinch and pop those little puffs right into his mouth! It's pretty cute if I do say so myself!

Sadly, we had to retire the swing :( and the infant tub.

He has become quite the drool master but still no teeth!

Charlie went swimming in a lake (Mille Lacs) for the first time and ended up taking a nap on the pontoon in the shade.

Charlie went to Bunker Beach for the first time. Might I add that this was also the first time Mommy was out in her suit in public for the first time post baby and boy, I have never been so self conscious and uncomfortable in a bikini! Yuck! Note to self, it's time for a new mom suit and a workout plan! Go figure, those 30 pounds I lost have come back and then some. Oh how I miss nursing, a real pound shredder!

We introduced the tipee cup and while I wouldn't say it's been a success it hasn't yet been a failure either!

According to the doctor he is still too young to be "officially" diagnosed with asthma however, we are treating him as if it is. We have what they like to call a "control plan" (i.e. daily neb at bedtime) to maintain and or eliminate the potential onset of additional respiratory illnesses. So far, so good! I must say that it is rather convenient to have a 6 month supply of prescrips in the house so we can start treating asap should we need to instead of waiting and hoping that urgent care will give us what we need!

While much assistance is required from us Charlie loves to walk! Don't you know, he has places to be and people to see! After countless back aches/pains we broke down and purchased a used walker from Once Upon a Child and I have to say that it was the best decision and $15 we have ever made! For reals, Charlie cruises around in this thing like it's a hot rod!

Yeah, yeah, I realize that this post is nearly two months late (Charlie will be 8 months old tomorrow) but what's a Mommy to do when the vertigo is back and in full force?! My apologies!

So without further ado, here is Charlie's 6th month posting in all it's glory.

Clothing: 0-3 months and on rare occasions we have been able squeeze him into 6 months. Yep, he is still just a little peanut!

He visited the zoo for the first time.

His main source of nourishment is still formula (~ 6 oz every 3.5 hours) but also, he now eats solids three times a day and was introduced to sweet potatoes, apricots, mango's, squash, sweet potatoes w/corn, peach yogurt (not a fan), and bananas. And because he is very curious and loves to put anything and everything in his mouth we started using the Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder and have been VERY successful with cantaloupe and watermelon. It's a great tool for snack time with Daddy!

Speaking of snack time with Daddy, he loves to crinkle and chew on the bag of chips. I know that with time, I will have two chip monsters in the house!

On occasion, and mostly because Momma was put on the spot during snack time at daycare (don't ask) he has also been introduced to puffs. While his tiny little fingers don't yet understand the pinching/gripping mechanics they still manage to get everywhere...tis the beginnings of Charlie trails!

About halfway through the month and once he was finally able to fully overcome his respiratory issues he started sleeping through the night. No joking, for 12-3 hours straight! Nap time however, is consistent, but the duration, not so much - sometimes its an hour, sometimes it three, sometimes, he doesn't even nap at all!

He can now sit but with a lot of weeble-wobbling! He isn't quite yet to the point where we can let him sit without a mountain of pillows surrounding him or be unattended.

He had his first wedding date...with Mommy! Daddy was busy being Uncle Mikey's Best Man! Might I say, you looked so very handsome and were, well, umm, for the most part, very well behaved!

He FINALLY ~~likes~~ loves bath time and he has nearly outgrown the infant tub. Thank god, I was so sick of that clunky thing always being in my way!

He has become quite a routine monster! As soon as his bath is done and he is halfway into his jammies bed time is triggered in an instant and usualy faster than I can say, "Are you sleepy?!"

Our decision to pull him out of daycare for two weeks was by far, the best decision we could have ever made! Not only was he NOT exposed to the hand foot & mouth virus that was being passed around he finally managed to recover from all of his chronic respiratory issues we have been dealing with for the last 3 months! Speaking of, he also had a Sweat Test and Upper GI (see picture below, poor lil man had to drink Barium and it was EVERYWHERE!) done to make sure there was no underlying issues causing the constant illnesses. All appointment mumbo jumbo aside, everything is okie dokie! Whew, such a relief! Next month (July) we will see a respiratory specialist for one last assessment.

...umm, please hang with me while my fingertips vomit all over the keyboard.

It's nothing personal with our provider; in fact, I think she is fabulous! You see, it's those germy little rug rats that I have an issue with. Long story short and come to find out, daycare is in the midst of a hand foot and mouth breakout.

I strongly feel that this is the last thing that Charlie needs to be exposed to at this moment in time given his age, past tract record for being highly susceptible to everything, and because of his prematurity. Yes, I'm still using that card. I mean seriously, we haven't even had the opportunity to fully recover from all of the respiratory issues that we have been dealing with since we started daycare four months ago. I don't know, honestly, why is it that we can't ever catch a damn break? I find all of this to be developmentally debilitating (one step forward, two steps back) for Charlie and highly frustrating for me.

Even though he hasn't yet shown any signs of having contracted the virus (crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes) I can't help but to wonder...
A) Have we have chosen the most ideal and beneficial option for Charlie?
B) Would he thrive more in a setting where it's only him and possibly a nanny?
C) Would he thrive more in a setting where there are only a handful of children or less?
D) Or, is his current environment where the door is always open and revolving with 12+ random and only sometimes consistent group of children the most beneficial?

No matter what the "right" answer may be, none of the above are truly ideal to me. So, after several heated discussions this past weekend we have decided to pull Charlie out of daycare for two weeks in hopes that...
A) The virus will have fully dissipated upon our return on July 11th.
B) He will finally have the chance to fully recover from his respiratory issues...I know, one can only hope!

I know what you are thinking and YES, I DO REALIZE that I can't put him in a bubble and that I can't prevent the inevitable but I can however control where he goes and who he is exposed to to some degree. I don't know, I guess all of this is just "fuel to my fire" and that it is probably all stemming from the fact that I continue to find myself struggling emotionally when being separated from my baby boy. If only I lived in a world where being a "working mom" wasn't the norm and necessity.

You aren't such a fan of napping for Mommy and Daddy however, at daycare, Kara has managed to get you to nap once a day for at least two hours.

You are still mainly bottle fed and eat roughly 5 or 6 bottles in a day and you take in about 4 - 6 oz. at each sitting depending upon your mood.

You eat solids twice a day i.e. breakfast and dinner and were introduced to green beans and carrots, Pears are still by far your FAVORITE and you aren't so fond of peaches.

Your accidental roll-overs have turned into I have to get that toy roll-over.

Mike & Allison's Wedding...

We have been so BUSY that I am just now finding some spare time to post an update! Are you still with me? My apologies for the lack of postings. Our little Charlie Bug keeps us rather busy now days!

Memorial weekend was FABULOUS!

On Saturday, Charlie had a sleepover with Grandma and Grandpa and we spent the day with Tony, Dee, Mike, and Ali down at Zimmerman's Wild West Days. Yeah, we may have tipped a few (too many) back! For those of you who aren't familiar with Wild West Day it is our small towns annual hoo-ra and it's always a good time! Beautiful weather, parade, carnival food, beer garden, and karaoke contest! What more does one need to have a good time?

Sunday, we celebrated my Daddy's birthday with a good old fashioned family BBQ! In fact, because we had some extra bodies floating around Bob finally got around to installing Charlie's playground that we inherited from my parents when they moved.

As I have said before gardening has truly become one of our passions. Although, as it was last year, we are finding it rather difficult to tend to the garden and keep Charlie entertained all at the same time! Our solution, burn some vacation time, send Charlie to daycare, and "BAM", the gardens have finally been cleaned up and fresh mulch has been layed! Now all we need to do is maintain, pull weeds, and wait for everything to bloom!

Let me tell you, while the rock borders are stunning, they sure are a TON of work! Who's idea was this? Oh yeah, ,mine! Shit! Seriously, we had to pull out and re-replace each individual rock one by one from each of our four gardens just to clean out the overgrown grass and weeds. Let's just say this is by far our least favorite part and the most tedious! I have never been so grossed out! Apparently, these rock borders are a desired vacation retreat for some of the strangest and most disgusting creepy crawlers!

And, after only four years, we finally got around to installing the fire-pit! HALLELUJAH! I'm going to be honest, we really had no idea what we were doing and were pleasantly surprised with the "almost" finished product! Unfortunatley, I didn't take pictures of how and what we did. Basically, we dug a hole, dug some more holes, and voila, a DIY firepit! Now, all we have left to do is to haul in some sand to fill in the cracks and to spark a fire! Not too shabby for not having any idea what we were doing huh?!

And that, my friends, is what we have been up to. This weekend, my brother Mikey is getting married!!! Can't wait to head out of town for a MN destination wedding! I am almost positive I will have a loot of pics for you next week. Until then, much love!

Curb Appeal...

I'll be the first to admit that we really don't know much about gardening, but we like to pretend we do! Over the years I guess you could say that we have self educated ourselves by trial and error and the results are finally starting to pay off!

So, here we are, spring has sprung, the birds are chirping, the nursery's are full of fragrant flowers, and it's time to get dirty! Preparing the perennial gardens for the summer is so gratifying! While the gardens have yet to bloom, their foilage foundations are vastly abundant and well on their way.

To show exactly what I'm talking about I thought it would be fun to take a tour of our home from the outside. Over the years we have gone from bland and boring to colorful and exciting! And simply because pictures are sometimes better than words here is a snapshot through our adventures of creating the most perfect curb appeal that is forever evolving!

I simply can't wait to collect a collage of pictures from this year. We have already transplanted many flowers, we are planning to put in a fire pit and a play ground. Big plans, big projects, big rewards!

Charlie Bug,

Exactly three days before our 5th wedding anniversary we celebrated you turning 5 months! We are just simply dumbfounded by how fast you are turning into such a BIG BOY! In the blink of an eye you are becoming more curious, independent, interactive, responsive, and among many, many, other things. We never could have imagined how much you would change our lives for the better. We truly are so very blessed and can't wait to watch your grow and explore!

Your four month milestones include...

Diapers: Size 2

Clothing: 3 Months

Height: 24.5"
Weight: On 4/12 you weighed 12 lbs. 11.5 oz. and 3 very short weeks later (5/3) you weighed 13 lbs. 13 oz. - tuba wubba!

You celebrated your very first Easter and you even got to meet the Easter Bunny!

You are still mainly bottle fed (4-6 oz. every 3-4 hrs.) with the exception of solids at dinner time. We introduced you to prunes, pears, and sweet peas. By far, pears are your favorite! It's been so much fun introducing you to new things and Mommy loves to feed you by the spoon!! And because we are now eating solids like a BIG BOY we thought that it was only appropriate to let you start experiencing the highchair. Surprisingly, you do really well with both! However, for some reason (probably positional), you always manage to make doodie (is there a polite way to say that?) during the middle of your meals. While this may be a private matter for most, we can't help but chuckle at your silly faces and serious concentration!

You are finally big enough for your jumper-roo and exer-saucer! While you don't quite understand what to do with/in either it's so obvious that your trying to process the mechanics mentally and physically.

Our most favorite milestone of all was when you decided to roll over from your belly to your back. While it may have only happened a few times (mostly by accident I am sure) we were both so very excited, proud, and honored that neither one of us missed it!

You managed to sleep straight through the night for an entire week this month! While it did not last, Mommy and Daddy sure did enjoy the extra sleep!

With each passing day tummy time is becoming more tolerable. We have found that if we lie your on your tummy in front of your play mat you are more engaged as the objects dangling seem to peak your interest. Also, slowly but surely, you are starting to get the concept of moving your chubby little legs into the crawling motion. Now if you could figure out how to shift your arms. Soon enough!

Your belly laughs cause you to get the hiccups and your gummy smiles are always present! You are such a little ham just like your Daddy!!

You know you're a mommy when...

My family, my everything!

March was a difficult month! Since most of our energy and efforts were geared towards countless doctor visits and sick days there really wasn't much time or energy to focus in on anything other than what was ultimately the most important, a healthy baby.

Most importantly, Charlie passed his hearing screen with flying colors!!!

Diapers = Size 1

Clothing = 0-3 Months

Eye Color = Baby Blue (They are GORGEOUS!)

Height

Newborn: 17 3/4"

2 Months: 21"

4 Months: 24.5"

Weight

Newborn: 4 lbs. 5 oz.

2 Months: 9 lbs. 5 oz.

4 Months: 12 lbs. 11.5 oz.

Head Circumference

Newborn: 33 cm.

2 Months: 38.5 cm.

4 Months: 43.5 cm.

Bath time has become less of a chore and more so the highlight of our day!

Due to supply and demand issues we were forced to transition Charlie from breast milk to formula. So far so good; the only negative, constipation. We are still consistently eating approximately 3-4 ounces every 3-4 hours.

Charlie started designating 5:30/6:30 pm as bedtime and usually sleeps through until 2:30/3:30 am to which we have a diaper change and a bottle that puts him right back to sleep until about 6:30/7:30 am. I think we can attribute this month's great sleeping rituals to being sick and highly overstimulated days at daycare!

Tummy time has become a bit more enjoyable and Charlie is becoming more mobile.

COOKING! In our house, Mommy is in charge of preparing the pre-packaged meals i.e. chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, french fries, pizza, etc., and or chocholate chip cookies! Everything else is left for Daddy to prepare!

I don't even want to go there, but I'm going to for the sake of this post and my 30 day challenge.

While I am a firm believer in the phrase "everything happens for a reason" I still wish that I could forget that we miscarried our first pregnancy last year. It was and is by far, the hardest thing I have ever had to cope and come to terms with. If I think about it today I am thankful that it happened because if it had not, Charlie wouldn't be here, and I simply can't imagine what our lives would be like without him.

I will never forget and someday, we will be able to meet our little angel that was!

Mommy Thoughts...

We have a happy, healthy (well, somewhat) four month old...yikes! Where is the time going? At our well-check appointment on Tuesday Charlie registered in at 12 pounds 11.5 ounces, 24 inches, and a head circumference of 43 cm. Complete four month post coming soon!

:( Charlie is sick again :(

While it's not nearly as bad as our first go round (knock on wood) it just breaks my heart that there is really nothing that we can do other than giving him some extra TLC. The worst part of it all this time is that he seems to has lost his voice. :(

Due to Charlie's constipation we have started introducing solids at breakfast and dinner. So far we have had prunes and pears and have been very successful! I'm just simply shocked by how much this kid can put down! Seriously, we have a true fat kid on our hands folks! Let's not forget to mention how much fun it is for Mommy and Daddy to feed him with a spoon! So, with that said, I'm in desperate need of any and all tips, tricks, advice, websites, and etc. when it comes to making homemade baby food!

I finally got my hands dirty in the garden! It was wonderful and highly relaxing! I can't wait for the warm weather to return so that I can finish what I started! Pics coming soon.
